The great René Gruau

Renato Zavagli Ricciardelli delle Caminate (1909-2004), o René Gruau (el apellido le viene de su madre, Marie Gruau) fue un ilustrador de moda con mucho prestigio, trabajó para grandes nombres de la alta costura, como Blamain, Balenciaga, Givenchy...(sí, son firmas más antiguas de lo que esperabais) y también para revistas como Vogue, Elle, Marie-Clarie, Femina, L'Album du Figaro... Sus espectaculares ilustraciones tuvieron y tienen un enorme influencia en la publicidad y en el marketing de moda. 

Me encanta su obra, encuentro que la gran mayoría  tienen cierto punto de exageración, expansión... gracias al tipo de pincelada que utiliza. Y es genial, ya que le da más vida o dinamismo al dibujo.

La primera vez que vi unas de sus ilustraciones fue en la revista Glamour, como una de esas fotos que las ponen si va a conjunto con el estilo que quieren representar con unas prendas determinadas, en ese tipo de páginas. Me cautivaron, nunca había visto algo igual, tan original, con tanta vitalidad y sensualidad... Así que las recorté y las enganché en el armario, por aquel entonces no sabia quién era li autor, y hoy lo he descubierto, ce la vie...

Renato Zavagli Ricciardelli delle Caminate (1909-2004), or René Gruau (surname  comes from his mother, Marie Gruau) was a fashion Illustrator with much prestige, he worked for big names in Haute Couture, such as Blamain, Balenciaga, Givenchy...(Yes, are older than expected) and also for magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Marie-Clarie, Femina, L'Album du Figaro... Their spectacular illustrations had and have a huge influence in the advertising and marketing of fashion.

 I love his work, I find that the vast majority have some degree of exaggeration, expansion... because of the type of brushstroke used. And it is great, it gives more life and dynamism to the draw. 

The first time I saw one of his illustrations was in Glamour magazine, as one of those photos that put them if you set the style that want to represent with a certain garments, in that kind of pages. I captivated, I had never seen something equal, so original, so much vitality and sensuality... So I cut them and hooked them in the closet, that then did not know who was li author, and today what I have discovered, ce la vie...
